Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon molasses
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Orange Buttercream Frosting:
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt.
2. In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth. Add the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract and mix well.
3. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and stir until just combined. Roll the dough into balls and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
4. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool completely on a wire rack.
5. To make the orange buttercream frosting, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar in a large bowl. Add the orange juice and vanilla extract and mix well.
6. Once the gingerbread cookies have cooled completely, spread a generous amount of frosting onto each cookie.
7. Decorate with additional frosting, sprinkles, or any other toppings you desire! Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
Enjoy your delicious gingerbread cookies with orange buttercream frosting!
