  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar, cocoa, vanilla and salt. Beat with an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Add butter and beat until melted. Gradually add milk, beating after each addition until batter is smooth. Pour batter into prepared cake pan and bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Let cake cool before frosting.
